International Student Desk
Student Data and Fen Privacy Q&A
Short answers about Fen, student work and privacy. The Product Privacy Notice contains the complete legal information and controls if you need more detail.
What does Fen send to OpenAI?
Only when you ask Fen to respond, the Desk sends your question, a limited part of the recent conversation, relevant Desk context and selected source text needed to answer. Fen does not require document uploads at launch.
Is my Fen content used to train AI models?
No. International Student Desk has not opted in to OpenAI model-improvement sharing. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models unless the API customer explicitly opts in.
How long may OpenAI keep a question and answer?
Under the standard OpenAI API arrangement used for Fen, abuse-monitoring logs may contain prompts, responses and related safety metadata and may be retained for up to 30 days. OpenAI says longer retention may apply where required by law or reasonably necessary to protect its services or another person from harm. Content flagged for safety may be reviewed by authorised provider personnel.
What does International Student Desk keep?
The Desk does not keep a routine server-side transcript of Fen questions and answers. It keeps minimised usage, delivery, token, cost and safety records needed to provide and protect the service. The visible conversation stays in your browser until you clear it or delete the product account.
Can Desk staff, my school or my guardian read my Fen chat?
Desk staff do not routinely read Fen conversations. Narrow access may occur for a specific support, security, safety or legal incident and must be restricted, logged and time-limited. The Desk does not give schools or guardians access to a student's Fen transcript. Someone can still see content if the student shares it or leaves it visible on a device.
Can I delete my data?
You can clear the browser conversation and use Privacy & account to delete the product account. Deletion removes active Desk data under the published schedule, but it cannot immediately remove content already held in OpenAI's separate abuse-monitoring logs during its retention window or records that must be kept for a specific legal reason.
What should I never enter into Fen?
Do not enter passwords, passport or government identification numbers, payment details, medical or mental-health information, visa or residence permit documents, official transcripts, confidential school documents or another person's private information.
Does Fen make decisions about me?
No. Fen gives planning support and may make mistakes. It does not decide admission, eligibility, grades, subject access, immigration, finance or access to education. Verify important requirements with the official institution or authority.
